They found that the mice receiving the transplants developed social deficits and stereotypy and exhibited increased fecal excretion of <em>p<\/em>-Cresol compared to mice receiving transplants from control mice.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the researchers transplanted microbiota from control mice into the experimental mice. They report, \u201cThe microbiota of control mice rescued social interactions, dopamine neurons excitability, and fecal <em>p<\/em>-Cresol levels when transplanted to <em>p<\/em>-Cresol treated mice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They conclude, \u201c[T]he ability of a control microbiota to normalize <em>p<\/em>-Cresol levels, VTA dopamine neurons excitability, and social behavior when transplanted to <em>p<\/em>-Cresol treated mice provides a rationale for clinical trials aimed at studying the beneficial impact of microbiota interventions targeting <em>p<\/em>-Cresol production to alleviate core social deficits in ASD.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2014<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe microbial metabolite <em>p<\/em>-Cresol induces autistic-like behaviors in mice by remodeling the gut microbiota,\u201d Patricia Bermudez-Martin, J\u00e9r\u00f4me A.
